I already had Bette Midler, cabaret showgirl, actress turned philanthropist on my list of portraits of Magical People, given my admiration for her work restoring green to NYC with her New York Restoration Project. She was in my “environmentalist category.” OK, clearly not her last act. Just as I was about to draw Bette, suddenly her return to Broadway was announced. Bette Midler in the title role of Dolly Levi, in Hello Dolly!, the classic American musical about a socialite-turned-matchmaker. And chosen as a muse for Marc Jacobs SS2016 campaign the next week based on the 70's? Perfect! Seriously fun...

Connecting to Magical Beings makes the uncanny appear and miracles happen.  Many times drawing Pharrell Williams, my pen drew specific lines for me.  My computer window would suddenly open up a window or a book page would open with exactly what I needed to see.  The song playing spoke exactly on cue. The beautiful face of Pharrell Williams, already hangs in my home, one of them is this W magazine cover.  I suddenly realized he must be added to my Magical Beings collection of illustrations!  A long-time fan, I've followed Pharrell from his Neptunes and N*E*R*D days to the rise...

3 for the Front Row. The Lion Queens. Meeeow! All hail the Queens I would love in the front row for my New York Fashion Week show! Caitlyn Jenner, Anna Wintour, and Beyonce make a nice trio of Kittens for the Catwalk! The inspiration began with Anna and her iconic, yogic Eagle pose she curls into when in the front row. As prime eagle eye of the fashion industry, her pose is perfection!  Beside her famous dark glasses, and Egyptian coif, she repeatedly sports simple golden lizard kitten heels. Serve This! Tennis speak has some lovely words like Love and Serve.  When a powerful and beautiful woman, like Serena Williams masters the sport, much more is served than lobbed tennis balls across clay. To serve with love, free will, and every inch of passion inspires everyone. I’ve been served the opportunity to create 27 celebrity portraits and Serena Williams was top of my list! I start an illustration impulsed by movement. Everyone’s unique way of moving their body expresses their essence.  In Serena’s case I was moved by the images of her off the court, relaxed on the beach....

Wave hello to the futurists! Peeking and pecking at new worlds sprouting up this past spring, we happily feather-rubbed with the masses, descending upon all the future-peeping creatives as they unfurled their feathers at showy events. First, cameras and tweets preened on about dresses or lack thereof flaunted on the red carpets of all the award shows, and next, futurist muses flashed their goods at major art and design fairs like ICFF, Frieze, and Salone. Then, suddenly the show tables, vignettes, and homes of interior designers at charity events like DIFFA, Design on a Dime, and Kips Bay were lusted...
